Tanjungpinang, November 5,2020. Economy of the Kepulauan Riau in the third quarter of 2020 (y-on-y) contracted by -5.81 percent. In terms of the business sector, the economic contraction was mainly caused by the categories of wholesale and retail trade and repair of cars and motorcycles with a contraction of -1.83 percent, followed by construction with a share of -1.59 percent. From the expenditure side, the components that contributed to the largest contraction were Net Exports of -3.97 percent and PMTB with a share of -2.17 percent.

Economy of the Kepulauan Riau in quarter III-2020 compared to quarter II-2020 (q-to-q) grew by 3.23 percent. From the production side, the categories that contributed the most to the growth were the Processing Industry category with 1.73 percent and the Mining and Quarrying category by 0.58 percent.

Unemployment rate (TPT) in August 2020 was 10.34 percent, an increase of 2.84 percentage points compared to August 2019.

There are 288,549 people (16.87 percent of the working age population) who have been affected by Covid-19. Consisting of unemployment due to Covid-19 (42,210 people), BAK due to Covid-19 (8,587 people), temporary unemployment due to Covid-19 (12,568 people), and working residents experiencing reduced working hours due to Covid-19 (225,184 people) .
