Economy of Kepulauan Riau Province in 2020 Contracted by 3.80%

Economy of Kepulauan Riau in 2020 cumulatively contracted by 3.80 percent, after in 2019 it was able to grow by 4.84 percent.

Throughout 2020, the economy of Kepulauan Riau continued to show improvement from the second quarter (since the impact of Covid-19) to the fourth quarter. After previously contracting (growing negatively) to 7.55 percent in the second quarter, economic growth of Kepulauan Riau was able to rise in the third and fourth quarters, namely by 3.23 percent and 4.53 percent.

Meanwhile, economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2020 when compared to the same period in the previous year still contracted by 4.46 percent, but it was not as deep as in the third quarter where the contraction reached 5.81 percent. The movement of the rate of economic growth towards this positive direction is a positive signal for the rise of economy in the New Normal era.
