Tanjung Pinang (June 17) -- The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) officially began the door-to-door field data collection for the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) on June 15, 2026. The data collection will take place over two and a half months, ending on August 31, 2026.
The SE2026 is of great strategic importance as it captures the current state of Indonesia’s economy, which has undergone various changes over the past ten years—ranging from digital transformation and the impact of the pandemic to shifts in economic structure. The census results will serve as a crucial foundation for formulating development policies, not only at the national level but also at the provincial and regency/city levels.
To increase participation from the public and businesses and to strengthen collaboration with the government and stakeholders, the BPS is launching the SE2026 in various regions, one of which is Kepulauan Riau Province (Kepri). The Head of the BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, personally attended the SE2026 launch.
The SE2026 launch in Kepulauan Riau took place at the Wan Seri Beni Hall in Tanjung Pinang City and was attended by the Governor of Kepulauan Riau, Ansar Ahmad; First Vice Chair of Kepulauan Riau Provincial Legislative Council, Dewi Kumalasari; BPS Deputy for National Accounts and Statistical Analysis, Moh. Edy Mahmud; BPS Director of Expenditure Accounts and Executive Chair of SE2026, Windhiarso Ponco Adi; Head of Kepulauan Riau Provincial BPS, Toto Haryanto Silitonga; the Regional Secretary of Kepulauan Riau Province, Misni; mayors and regents in Kepulauan Riau; heads of BPS offices in various cities and regencies across the Kepulauan Riau; members of the Kepulauan Riau Regional Leadership Coordination Forum; and representatives of the 2026 Economic Census staff.
Amalia expressed her appreciation for the commitment of the governor, regents, and mayors in Kepulauan Riau to supporting the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census, including through the issuance of a Circular Letter on Support for the Implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. Kepulauan Riau became the second province, after South Sulawesi Province, where the launch was attended in person by the Head of the National Statistics Agency (BPS).
“The Economic Census is here to polish the ‘blue gem’ (Kepulauan Riau, ed.) at Indonesia’s northern gateway,” Amalia said during the 2026 Economic Census launch event in Tanjung Pinang. Amalia added that the Kepulauan Riau recorded economic growth of more than 7 percent in the first quarter of 2026, making it the province with the fifth-highest economic growth rate nationally.
On the same occasion, the Governor of Kepulauan Riau, Ansar Ahmad, emphasized the importance of the 2026 Economic Census for strategic policies in Kepulauan Riau Province. “For us in Kepulauan Riau Province (Kepri, ed.), where 98 percent of the territory is maritime and 2 percent is land, the results of this Economic Census are also very important for us in determining future policies related to the development of the maritime economy in Kepulauan Riau Province,” he said.
Ansar also instructed all regents, mayors, subdistrict heads, neighborhood heads, village heads, and all levels of government to support the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census, and called on community leaders and business owners to actively participate in the census.
Through the 2026 Economic Census, all economic potential and dynamics will be quantified, thereby assisting the government—at the national, provincial, and regency/city levels—in formulating more appropriate policies tailored to the characteristics of each region.
Amalia encouraged the public to actively participate in the 2026 Economic Census through the TIR message: Welcome the 2026 Economic Census enumerators, fill out the data correctly, and ensure the confidentiality of the data provided is safeguarded.
She also reminded all census enumerators to work professionally, ensure no one is missed during data collection, and guarantee the quality of the data gathered. “There are two criteria for a successful economic census: coverage and data quality. The Economic Census is a shared commitment; everyone must participate without exception,” she concluded.
