Abstract

In March 2023, the combined 2 cities in Kepulauan Riau Province (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) experienced year-on-year (yoy) inflation of 4.77 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 113.22. Inflation occurred due to an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 108.07 in March 2022 to 113.22 in March 2023.

The combined yoy inflation of 2 cities in Kepulauan Riau occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in the index of expenditure groups, namely: the food, beverage, and tobacco group rose by 6.49 percent; the clothing and footwear group increased by 2.18 percent; the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group rose by 2.36 percent; the household supplies, equipment, and routine maintenance group rose by 2.64 percent; the health group rose by 0.24 percent; transportation group rose by 12.24 percent; information, communication, and financial services group rose by 0.13 percent; recreation, sports, and culture group rose by 2.28 percent; education group rose by 2.82 percent; food and beverage supply/restaurant group rose by 2.03 percent; and personal care and other services group rose by 4.89 percent.

The month-to-month (mtm) deflation rate in March 2023 amounted to 0.29 percent. Deflation occurred due to a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 113.55 in February 2023 to 113.22 in March 2023.

Of the 2 CPI cities in Kepulauan Riau Province, Batam City experienced year on year (yoy) inflation of 4.83 percent, and Tanjungpinang City of 4.28 percent.
