Abstract

In May 2024, Kepulauan Riau Province experienced year on year (y-on-y) inflation of 3.67 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.39. The highest inflation occurred in Batam City at 3.90 percent with a CPI of 106.63 and the lowest occurred in Karimun Regency at 2.55 percent with a CPI of 105.76. Meanwhile, Tanjungpinang City had inflation of 3.07 percent with a CPI of 105.36.

Y-on-y inflation in Kepulauan Riau Province occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in eight expenditure group indices, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group rose by 7.13 percent; the clothing and footwear group increased by 3.54 percent; the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group rose by 0.92 percent; the health group rose by 3.50 percent; the transportation group rose by 3.89 percent; the education group rose by 2.49 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group rose by 1.82 percent; and the personal care and other services group rose by 6.15 percent. While the expenditure groups that experienced a decrease in the index, namely: the group of supplies, equipment and routine maintenance of households fell by 0.36 percent; the information, communication and financial services group fell by 0.05 percent; and the recreation, sports and culture group fell by 0.14 percent.

The month to month (m-to-m) inflation rate of Riau Islands Province in May 2024 was 0.37 percent, inflation occurred due to an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 106.00 in April 2024 to 106.39 in May 2024. While the year to date (y-to-d) inflation rate was 1.18 percent.
