Abstract

In March 2020, Kepulauan Riau Province's CPI (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) showed deflation of 0.40 percent. Deflation occurred due to the decrease in the Consumer Price Index from 103.48 in February 2020 to 103.07 in March 2020. Inflation in the calendar year (January to March 2020) was -0.38 percent. Year-on-year inflation (March 2020 against March 2019) of 1.09 percent. From 2 CPI cities in Kepulauan Riau Province, it is recorded that Batam City and Tanjungpinang City experienced deflation of 0.39 percent and 0.40 percent respectively.

Viewed from the group, deflation that occurred in March 2020 was caused by a decrease in the index of 3 groups namely: transportation groups decreased by 3.08 percent; the food, beverage and tobacco group decreased by 0.55 percent; and clothing and footwear group decreased by 0.05 percent. Conversely there were 5 groups that experienced an increase namely; the personal care and other services group rose by 2.05 percent; health group increased by 0.23 percent; the food and beverage/restaurant supply group rose by 0.21 percent; recreation, sports, and culture group increased by 0.08 percent; and household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance rose by 0.01 percent. While the other 3 groups did not experience changes in the price index.
