Abstract

In December 2021, the CPI of Kepulauan Riau Province (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) showed inflation of 0.56 percent. Inflation occurred due to the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 106.45 in November 2021 to 107.05 in December 2021. Inflation for the calendar year (January–December) 2021 and year-on-year inflation (December 2021 against December 2020) was 2.26 percent. Of the 2 CPI cities in Kepulauan Riau Province, Batam City experienced an inflation of 0.58 percent, and Tanjungpinang City experienced an inflation of 0.42 percent.
Inflation that occurred in Kepulauan Riau was due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the index of expenditure groups, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group, which increased by 0.55 percent; clothing and footwear group increased by 0.58 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups increased by 0.03 percent; household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group increased by 0.31 percent; transportation group increased by 1.71 percent; recreation, sports, and culture groups increased by 0.18 percent; the food and beverage/restaurant supply group increased by 1.48 percent; and the personal care and other services group rose 0.41 percent. Expenditure groups experiencing deflation, namely: the health group decreased by 0.12 percent; and the information, communication and financial services group decreased by 0.07 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure group that did not change was the education group.
