Abstract

In October 2022, the CPI of Kepulauan Riau Province (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) showed a deflation of 0.07 percent. Inflation occurred due to the decline in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 112.36 in September 2022 to 112.28 in October 2022. Inflation for the calendar year (January–October) 2022 was 4.89 percent. Year-on-year inflation (October 2022 against October 2021) was 6.39 percent. Of the 2 CPI cities in Kepulauan Riau Province, Batam City experienced a deflation of 0.04 percent, and Tanjungpinang City experienced a deflation of 0.34 percent.

Deflation that occurred in the Kepulauan Riau Province was due to a decrease in prices as indicated by a decrease in the index of expenditure groups, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group decreased by 1.23 percent; household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group decreased by 0.05 percent; and recreation, sports and culture groups decreased by 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the clothing and footwear category increased by 0.13 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel increased by 0.62 percent; health group increased by 0.05 percent; transportation group increased by 1.31 percent; and the personal care and other services group rose 0.22 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure groups that did not change were the information, communication, and financial services groups; education group; and groups providing food and beverages/restaurants.
