The percentage of Poor Population in Kepulauan Riau Province in March 2020 reached 5.92 percent

In March 2020, the number of poor people (population with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in Kepulauan Riau Province reached 131,966 people (5.92 percent), an increase of 4,208 compared to September 2019 which was 127,758 people (5.80 percent).

The percentage of poor people in urban areas in September 2019 was 5.26 percent, rising to 5.42 percent in March 2020. While the percentage of poor people in rural areas in September 2019 was 10.67 percent decreased to 10.43 percent in March 2020.

During the period September 2019-March 2020, the number of poor people in urban areas rose from 104,234 people in September 2019 to 108,859 people in March 2020, while in rural areas decreased from 23,524 people in September 2019 to 23,107 in March 2020.

The role of food commodities towards the Poverty Line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health). Contribution of Food Poverty Line to Poverty Line in March 2020 was recorded at 66.73 percent. This condition is not much different from the condition in September 2019 which is 66.45 percent.
