Abstract

In September 2020, the CPI for the Kepulauan Riau Province (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) showed deflation of 0.15 percent. Deflation occurred due to a decrease in the Consumer Price Index from 103.24 in August 2020 to 103.09 in September 2020. Inflation for the calendar year (January to September 2020) was -0.36 percent. Inflation year on year (September 2020 against September 2019) is 0.10 percent. Of the 2 CPI cities in the Kepulauan Riau Province, Batam City experienced deflation of 0.12 percent, and Tanjungpinang City experienced deflation of 0.32 percent.

Judging from the category, the deflation that occurred in September 2020 was caused by a decrease in 3 groups, namely: the transportation group which fell by 1.82 percent; the food, beverages and tobacco group fell by 0.11 percent; as well as the equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group which decreased by 0.05 percent. Conversely, 6 groups experienced an increase, namely: the education group increased by 0.82 percent; the personal care and other services group increased by 0.78 percent; the health group increased by 0.10 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group increased by 0.06 percent; the clothing and footwear group increased by 0.04 percent; and the recreation, sports, and culture group increased by 0.04 percent.
