Abstract

In October 2021, the CPI of the Kepulauan Riau Province (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) showed inflation of 0.30 percent. Inflation occurred due to the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 105.22 in September 2021 to 105.54 in October 2021. Inflation for the calendar year (January–October) 2021 was 0.82 percent. Year-on-year inflation (October 2021 against October 2020) was 2.23 percent. Of the 2 CPI cities in the Riau Archipelago Province, Batam City experienced inflation of 0.32 percent, and Tanjungpinang City experienced 0.16 percent inflation.

Inflation that occurred in the Riau Archipelago was due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the index of expenditure groups, namely: food, beverages and tobacco, an increase of 0.28 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups increased by 0.07 percent; household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group increased by 0.56 percent; the health group increased by 0.48 percent; transportation group increased by 1.62 percent; and the food and beverage/restaurant supply group increased by 0.15 percent. Expenditure groups experiencing deflation, namely: clothing and footwear, decreased by 0.17 percent; recreation, sports, and culture groups decreased by 0.19 percent; and the personal care and other services group fell 0.21 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure group that did not change, namely the information, communication and financial services group; and education groups.
