Abstract

In August 2021, the CPI of Kepulauan Riau Province (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) showed a deflation of 0.42 percent. Deflation occurred due to a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 105.33 to 104.89 in August 2021. Calendar year inflation (January–August) 2021 was 0.20 percent and year-on-year inflation (August 2021 versus August 2020) was 1 ,60 percent. Of the 2 CPI cities in the Riau Archipelago Province, Batam City experienced a deflation of 0.44 percent, and Tanjungpinang City experienced a deflation of 0.32 percent.
Deflation that occurred in Kepulauan Riau was due to a decline in prices as indicated by a decrease in the index of expenditure groups, namely: food, beverages and tobacco by 1.36 percent; household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group by 0.14 percent; and the transportation group by 0.74 percent. Expenditure groups experiencing inflation, namely: clothing and footwear group by 0.28 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups by 0.01 percent; health group by 0.15 percent; information, communication, and financial services group by 0.01 percent; recreation, sports, and culture groups by 0.01 percent; education group by 0.37 percent; food and beverage/restaurant supply group by 0.09 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 0.33 percent.
