Consumer Price Index of Kepulauan Riau Province in March 2021

In March 2021, the CPI of Kepulauan Riau Province (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) showed deflation of 0.07 percent. Deflation occurred due to a decrease in the Consumer Price Index from 104,752 in February 2021 to 104,681 in March 2021. Inflation for the calendar year (January to March 2021) was -0.001 percent. Year-on-year inflation (March 2021 against March 2020) is 1.56 percent. Of the 2 CPI cities in the Kepulauan Riau Province, it was recorded that Batam City and Tanjungpinang City experienced deflation of 0.02 percent and 0.42 percent, respectively.
In terms of category, the deflation that occurred in March 2021 was caused by a fall in the index for four groups, namely: the personal care and other services group, which fell by 0.76 percent; the transportation group decreased by 0.36 percent; the food, beverages and tobacco group fell by 0.19 percent; as well as the equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group which decreased by 0.17 percent. On the other hand, three groups experienced an increase, namely: the food and beverage / restaurant supply group increased by 1.02 percent; the health group increased by 0.12 percent; and the clothing and footwear group increased by 0.08 percent. Meanwhile, the other four groups did not experience changes in the price index.
