Abstract

In March 2023, the number of poor people (people with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in Kepulauan Riau Province reached 142.50 thousand people (5.69 percent), a decrease of 6.4 thousand people compared to the September 2022 condition of 148.89 thousand people (6.03 percent).

The percentage of poor people in urban areas in September 2022 amounted to 5.46 percent, falling to 5.05 percent in March 2023. In contrast, the percentage of poor people in rural areas in September 2022 amounted to 10.63 percent, rising to 10.69 percent in March 2023.

During the September 2022-March 2023 period, the number of poor people in urban areas fell from 119.52 thousand people in September 2022 to 111.90 thousand people in March 2023. In contrast, in rural areas, it rose from 29.37 thousand people in September 2022 to 30.60 thousand in March 2023.

The role of food commodities in the poverty line is much greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health). The contribution of the food poverty line to the poverty line in March 2023 was recorded at 67.55 percent. This condition is not much different from the condition in September 2022, which amounted to 67.25 percent.
