Abstract

In February 2022, the CPI of Kepulauan Riau Province (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) showed a deflation of 0.42 percent. Deflation occurred due to a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 107.79 in January 2022 to 107.34 in February 2022. Inflation for the calendar year (January–February) 2022 was 0.27 percent. Year-on-year inflation (February 2022 against February 2021) was 2.47 percent. Of the 2 CPI cities in Kepulauan Riau Province, Batam City experienced a deflation of 0.48 percent, while Tanjungpinang City experienced an inflation of 0.08 percent.
Deflation that occurred in Kepulauan Riau was due to a decrease in prices as indicated by a decrease in the index of expenditure groups, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group, which fell by 1.57 percent; the health group decreased by 0.04 percent; transportation group decreased by 0.23 percent; and the information, communication and financial services group fell by 0.63 percent. Meanwhile, several expenditure groups experienced an increase, including: clothing and footwear, an increase of 0.07 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups increased by 0.09 percent; household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group increased by 1.22 percent; recreation, sports, and culture groups increased by 0.10 percent; the food and beverage/restaurant supply group increased by 0.02 percent; and the personal care and other services group rose 0.59 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure group that did not change was the education group.
