Abstract

In August 2022, Kepulauan Riau Province CPI (Batam City and Tanjungpinang City) showed a deflation of 0.50 percent. Inflation occurred due to a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 111.74 in July 2022 to 111.18 in August 2022. Inflation for the calendar year (January–August) 2022 was 3.86 percent. Year-on-year inflation (August 2022 versus August 2021) is 6.00 percent. Of the 2 CPI cities in Kepulauan Riau Province, Batam City experienced a deflation of 0.50 percent, and Tanjungpinang City experienced a deflation of 0.54 percent.
Deflation that occurred in the Riau Archipelago was due to a decline in prices as indicated by a decrease in the index of the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group, which fell by 2.04 percent; clothing and footwear group decreased by 0.40 percent; and the transportation group decreased by 0.40 percent. Meanwhile, the groups that experienced an increase were: housing, water, electricity, and household fuel, which increased by 0.28 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group increased by 0.16 percent; the health group increased by 0.05 percent; the information, communication, and financial services group increased by 0.12 percent; recreation, sports, and culture groups increased by 0.23 percent; the education group increased by 1.29 percent; the food and beverage/restaurant supply group increased by 0.17 percent; and the personal care and other services group rose 0.47 percent.
